A few weeks ago we discussed Esther 4:14 during our final True Woman 101 woman’s bible study.
For if you are completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance shall rise up to the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house shall perish. And who knows if you have attained to the kingdom for such a time as this?
One of our bible study members then commented that it if we choose to remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the people of South Africa will come from another place but we and our houses shall perish. If ever there was a wakening call to the body of Christ it is sounding now.
Years ago in the wake of the prayer preparation for the first Moreleta Park Esther conference a lady joined us with a stern word of reprimand. She warned that we have in so many ways become fat cows of Bashan
Hear this word, cows of Bashan who are in the mountain of Samaria, who press down the helpless, who crush the poor, who say to their husbands, Bring in, that we may drink.
We prayed, repented, I was young, just became mom for the third time. We lived in a cosy three bedroom duet, newly built, we owned two “middleclass” vehicles, yet I considered the sin of the cows of Bashan to be that of my rich neighbour with the flashy European vehicle and large house. Rich, not me.
Over the next 10 years the Lord has been testing and pruning my understanding of wealth. Today I value fresh and healthy food as wealth, the right of choice in my children’s education is wealth. Dinner together around the dining room table and building marriage and family relationships became the ultimate of wealth.
Yet our worldly means still elevates us to be amongst the top 5 percent in a country where we have a +40% unemployment rate. I still am extremely wealthy considering that more than 500 000 people lost their jobs since the last quarter of 2015. The call is resounding for us to wake up from our comfortable lives where we bemoan the price of petrol, bread and milk while others who have far less are treated sub humanly too the extend of extortion.
Why am I then referring to a military census? Because I see light at the end of the tunnel for this generation of people. I also understand that we have to be watchful and very awake to the prompting of the Holy Spirit because the Lord is shaking and setting new systems in place.
In Numbers there is this astounding thing that happens. The name of the book Numbers refers to the counting of the able bodied men of Israel at mount Sinai after they received God’s instructions and were preparing to enter the promised land. In Numbers 1 the Lord instructed Moses:
2Take the full number of the children of Israel, by their families, and by their fathers’ houses, every male by name;
3 All those of twenty years old and over, who are able to go to war in Israel, are to be numbered by you and Aaron.
God places them strategically and orderly in groups with the Levites in the middle surrounding the ark. In battle formation they were lead out… but because of their unbelief they never entered Canaan. A whole generation except for Joshua and Caleb died in the desert.
Then 40 years later they are standing on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho and God calls out another military census of all the men 20 years and older:
2 Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, throughout their fathers’ house, all that are able to go to war in Israel.
He is again ordering and preparing them to enter the promised land and this time it is different. They have become a people of obedience. They obey in consecrating themselves, they obey in walking around Jericho in silence and in their faith filled obedience the walls of Jericho crumbles!
Paul says that our war today is not against flesh and blood:
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
Our war today is fought in obeying the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
I am seeing the new life breaking forth, I am seeing a spiritual census being taken and the call is resounding to live fearlessly following his instructions fulfilling His calling on our lives. I am seeing a Joel 2 army ready to run in obedience:
7 They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
8 Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.
I am seeing a devouring fire:
17 And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.
